Meet the Crew

Meet Our Sailing Charter Crew

Captains Matthew Mortensen and Andrea Knutson are US Coast Guard Certified, with 6 Pack, one hundred ton unlimited licenses and offer crewed sailing charters in the Pacific Northwest.

Matthew Mortensen grew up in the Puget Sound area. From childhood he spent weekends and summers sailing and exploring the Inside Passage with his family aboard a 36 foot sloop. He is an experienced marine mechanic and electrician who, in the off season, runs his own marine systems business. Delivering yachts up and down the Pacific coast as far north as Ketchikan and south as Costa Rica, he has accumulated the blue-water experience necessary to safely navigate vessels in any circumstance.

Equipped with an open-minded, outgoing and adventuresome personality, he easily initiates lively conversations with anyone concerning almost anything. A lifetime of sailing, mountaineering, backpacking and back country skiing has instilled wide knowledge of northwest coast flora and fauna. Applauded for fantastic from-scratch food preparation, his love of cooking will be evident at first bite.

  • US Coast Guard Certified 6 Pack, 100 Ton Master's License
  • First Aid Certified

Chef Jodi Hyattcomes to us from Kansas before landing in Port Townsend, Washington. Jody started cooking at an early age in support of charitable missions and has continued professionally preparing food ever since, including catering for special events and weddings, and as an in-residence personal chef. Active with a wide range of interests, Jody enjoys canning and preserving the food she grows, cross country running and, in the off season, exploring the Olympic Peninsula wilderness areas by trail. She is a certified veterinary technician and former emergency medical technician.
Andrea Knutson grew up on a family-owned dairy farm in Minnesota. Her initial love of the water arose through family excursions, swimming, hiking and canoeing along the Mississippi River. A visit to Seattle during college stimulated a move to the Pacific Northwest shortly after her graduation from Winona State University. Andrea has a degree in Social Services and, when not cruising, works as a mental health counselor in Jefferson County.

If friendliness is a stereotype attributed to Midwestern people, then Andrea adds clout to the cliché. Fun-loving and easy going, yet determined and tough, she has the grit it takes for long, tough passages. Her specialty, beyond all normal shipboard duties, is spotting hard-to-see wildlife on shore. Despite lengthy protests from Matthew, Andrea celebrated her 40th birthday in 2015 by dragging her husband up to the summit of Mount Rainier. They made Mount Baker in 2016 and have more summit plans this spring.

Qualifications:
  • US Coast Guard Certified 6 Pack, 100 Ton Master's License
  • First Aid/CPR Certified
Our daughter was born in March, 2013 and accompanied us on the trip to Alaska in the first year of life. She is a free spirited, fearless, independent, and hilarious little girl who loves to be aboard Singawing. Unfortunately, she is not charter-ready so you will have to wait a few years to meet her.

Kirsten Campbell grew up in Washington State & spent many years exploring the outdoor’s, as both of her parents were avid outdoor seekers. She spent years backpacking, skiing & camping in the Olympic Mountains, and Cascades.

During her studies at Western Washington University, she purchased a wood 32’ William Atkin sailboat to live aboard and spent years sailing the San Juan Islands, Canadian Gulf Islands, & Bellingham Bay. She crewed off-shore on a friends sailboat from Bellingham, Wa. to Half Moon Bay, California, & again, with a different crew from Houston, TX. to Isla Mujeres, Mexico.

Kirsten is certified as a British Canoe Union Sea Kayak instructor, and has spent many years exploring the NW via Sea Kayak. Her on-land pursuits include traveling, bicycling, skiing, gardening, & cooking. She also spent years working in the restaurant business, so her knack for cooking came largely from her mother, and the great ideas she accumulated working in NW restaurants, serving up Local NW bounty!

She is fun-spirited, adventurous, & loves people!
