A thing about me that is 1000% true is that I love every single aspect of life on the boat. Honestly, everything, even the not-as-fun stuff like quick showers in the boat head and scrubbing bird poop off the decks, boat life for me is absolutely best life. Sleeping at sea always comes easy for me, and I hear the same from most guests, the gently motion and fresh air lull you to your dreams before you know it sometimes. So of course this week I'm going to focus on the merits of naps and hammocks and sleeping bags on deck under the stars.
The photo accompanying this weeks entry represents one of my all time best days at sea. We were in a small estuary, somewhere in BC, and to the right out of frame is the most magnificent mountainside waterfall that came from higher up than we could see. We saw a bear swimming here, and the clouds above us burst like a dam, downpouring quickly and then letting off just in time for dinner. The hammock, however, was everyone's favorite spot, as modeled by Captain Mortenson above.
A favorite ritual after dropping anchor for the night is getting out and hanging up the hammock, watching a guest plop down and pass out after an awesome day of adventure. I've been lucky enough to spend several nights sleeping in the hammock as well, wrapped up snug and warm in my sleeping bag. Slow, warm days will have people napping all over the boat like lazy cats sometimes, lengthwise on the side deck, stretched out in the sun. There's something to be said about the quiet times between excitement, and sleeping on a boat, no matter how you do it, is so very good. Sail, relax, enjoy.
